Summer 2020 Faculty Development

In collaboration with our partners in Instructional Technology Serivces, the Center for Inclusive Excellence is pleased to offer multiple opportunities for instructors to develop their skills with inclusive and effective teaching in hybrid and virtual modalities. In addition to the CIE-led programs below, be sure to check out the full menu of programs at https://its.sdsu.edu/training/.

Inclusive and Effective Course Design Boot Camp

Online, synchronous (3.5 hours)
Multiple dates in late May, early June

In this 3.5-hour workshop (including two short breaks!), we will review the basic principles of good course design so faculty are well-positioned to continue working on their own to craft effective and inclusive courses, regardless of modality. See full program description for specific dates and link to register.

Foundations of Effective and Inclusive Course Design

Online asynchronous, 8-10 hours to complete

In this self-paced course, participants will learn about evidence-based and inclusive teaching practices and will develop learner-centered course learning outcomes, assessments and activities for multiple modalities. This is a good option for those who need ultimate flexibility and/or do not feel able to commit to anything time-bound this summer.

Designing Inclusive (Virtual) Classrooms - Coming soon!

Online asynchronous

Through a combination of readings, self-reflection and hands-on activities, participants will explore their own identities and beliefs, learn strategies to better support students from all backgrounds and best practices for implementing changes in course design and teaching activities that will lead to more welcoming and inclusive classrooms. This is a good follow up to the Foundations of Effective and Inclusive Course Design course (or boot camp) for those who need ultimate flexibility and/or do not feel able to commit to anything time-bound this summer.
